The TV for millennials is here.

Instagram IGTV 2

Instagram recently just rolled out their own version of the conventional TV experience – revamping it for a more up-to-the-minute, present mobile experience.  Open up IGTV, and you’ll find that it mimics the turning on of an actual TV – as well as the reappearance of the infamous “static” that reminds you of the good ol’ analog days.

.

Alright, so what exactly is IGTV? Think of it as Instagram’s own video content hub with a longer-form video content of up to 60 minutes (although we’ve heard Instagram has plans of removing the time limit for IGTV ?). Like Instagram stories, videos are uploaded in a vertical format so that users can have the ultimate mobile experience. No need to constantly tilt your phones!

.

By 2021, “mobile videos will account for 78% of total mobile data traffic” as highlighted on IG’s blog. Furthermore, with the influx of YouTube’s popularity in the recent years and mobile videos becoming a ubiquitous functionality, it is no surprise that the time the youths spend watching traditional TV has decreased by 40%.

Best part is, IGTV gives you the effortless functionalities of IG stories and the option to prolong the duration of your of content like YouTube. So if your brand or business haven’t done so already, it’s time to get on board this (not sinking) ship.

Need help? Here are 6 video ideas your brand can use to take the first step in building better brand engagement.

.

1. CREATING A BRAND BLOG/ VLOG

If your brand’s social channels only exist solely as “product-pushing machines”, you’re doing it wrong. With IGTV, your brand has the opportunity to create a voice and a viewpoint that represents your brand as an entity. Look, a written blog already allows users to engage in a broader understanding of the brand and its accolades. So imagine a blog on IGTV that feeds all this information to the viewers without the need for them to actually read it. Instead, relying on visuals, cool content and an exciting commentary! Your brand blog can use IGTV as a platform because mobile videos are one of the most common forms of media watched by this generation. This also allows the entire brand experience to feel more genuine and personal for the consumer. Consumers can easily listen and watch to your brand’s IGTV blogs on the go, whilst making their way to and from work!

.

2. TUTORIALS AND PRODUCT DEMOS

Having tutorials or product demos as a regular content in your brand’s IGTV is a sure way to increase audience traction. It is also most likely the fastest and most foolproof way to teach your audience on how to use your product. The option for longer content on IGTV also allows brands to generate more useful, informative, and instructional information on a platform that already encompasses most of their brand following. This is because not all brands are established in the YouTube scene. A beauty brand can showcase beauty hacks regularly while a fitness brand can demonstrate workout routines on how to get your booty in shape just in time for your friend’s wedding.

Plus point: it builds brand credibility and authority the brand has on a particular subject!

.

3. LOOKBOOK VIDEOS

It’s all about the visuals. Look at lifestyle, fashion and beauty influencer @iamkareno’s IGTV for example. She jumped into this new trend by kicking off instantly with fresh content and, honestly, lookbook videos has never looked this good before!  Her use of beautiful visuals and aesthetics to produce fresh, vertical content is a great example of how you can seize this opportunity to target your audience more effectively. People are LAZY and they would generally prefer not to switch from Instagram to YouTube to Instagram again. Well, I know I am. Users are looking for a more seamless experience where content shown on Instagram are co-related and dependent. You can be admiring an IG fashion influencer for their sick fashion sense and click IGTV immediately for more inspiration on that style of clothing from their IG post. To summarise, longer videos = more creative content.

4. TEASERS

Teasers are a great way to build anticipation before the big release with sneak peaks. From product announcements to behind-the-scenes to events and launch parties, the possibilities are endless! You can even create video teasers that are shared exclusively on IGTV. This creates brand advocacy as your fans now have an extra reason to follow you 😉

.

5. BE A LITTLE SILLY

Why? Because content that revolves around humour and wit makes the brand more down to earth and relatable. You want people to perceive your brand as one that is positive and light-hearted because people are more likely to buy from a brand that they know, like, and trust. Huda Beauty’s Instagram encapsulates this concept by creating funny videos and skits for her IGTV. Check out her latest videos: “Gym Makeup Fail” and “Locked in Sephora” if you’re in need of a good laugh!

.

6. INFLUENCER SESSIONS AND Q&A VIDEOS

Bring in your influencer connections and maximize their reach by engaging them in interviews and Q&A sessions for your brand! Having these sessions allows interaction with your audience – which is more immediate and responsive. I mean, who doesn’t want to join in on a session that involves their favourite influencer. Viewers can like, share, direct message and even copy the video’s link to be shared on other social media platforms. Compared to IG stories, this is a simpler way to share your videos, with no restricted time limits or a disrupted connection from a live video.

.

Conclusion

These are just some of the ways your brand can utilise Instagram’s new tool. Imagine having a whole library of of your brand’s personal work portfolio accumulated over time. Furthermore, if someone follows your brand on IGTV, they’ll automatically be following you on your regular account as well. Yay. There are just SO many positive attributes to this new feature. Sooo get your creative juices flowing and start posting some amazing content!
